Sinkhole in Daisetta
Taken on May 15, 2008
Assistant County Attorney Tommy Chambers and Liberty County Sheriff Greg Arthur
view the Daisetta sinkhole.
The sinkhole began on May 5,
2008, and quickly grew to an
enormous size.  Cracks in the
ground would seem to indicate it
will become larger still.
Waste from oil wells and water have
accumulated in the sinkhole, along with
tanks and trees and an alligator or two.
The sinkhole currently stops about 50
feet from Highway 770.  The sinkhole is a
large, dangerous mess, but hopefully it
will stabilize soon so clean-up can begin.
Everyone should avoid it, for your own
safety's sake.
